From September - December 2016 I was given the opportunity to make costumes for a pantomime. I was given a design and budget. I was to make a full dame dress that had reference to sailors, along with a matching doublet for the understudy boy.

This costume had many difficulties to overcome as I was trying to stay as close to the designers vision.

the dress was constructed with fake breasts inserted into a bra and then a princess seamed bodice constructed over this by cutting on the stand. The petticoat was constructed with 48 meters of broderie anglaise strips being gathered into 7 meters. this is what created the fullness of the underskirt.

the strips of duchess satin and ribbon were applied after and the collar was attached to the dress for easier quick changes.
